Goodbye Glean, Hello Genio
Glean rebrands as Genio, launches The Confident Notetaker’s Masterclass and Genio Present, our new presentation support tool.

Glean, provider of study and note taking tools that significantly improve student success, has rebranded to Genio.
This latest evolution reflects the company’s expanded mission to unlock better learning for all students. From its roots in helping learners with learning challenges and accessibility needs, Genio also supports new majority learners who don’t fit the traditional mold of a traditional 18-year-old student, such as those who are parents, veterans, employed full time, neurodivergent, English-language learners (ESL) or over the age of 25.
More students are entering higher education who are underprepared, experiencing severe time constraints, and facing individual barriers to learning — Genio enables these students to gain the knowledge, confidence and skills they need to succeed.
Genio also unveiled The Confident Notetaker’s Masterclass, an hour-long, tool-agnostic interactive course created by learning experts that teaches participants techniques and strategies to enhance the quality and efficiency of their notes before, during and after class.
Split into seven modules, the course engages learners through audio, video, text, quizzes and self-reflection questions to provide an alternative to resource-intensive, institution-run study skills courses.
Additionally, Genio will be launching additional learning tools to further unlock learners’ potential, starting with a presentation support tool, Genio Present, that enables students to rehearse presentations, gain feedback and build confidence with their spoken delivery. Genio is currently only available in the UK via the DSA and AtW schemes. However, we do plan on making it available in North America in due course.
Why Genio?
Especially as higher education faces the oncoming demographic cliff, where the number of incoming traditional students falls significantly, colleges are focused on student success and retention more than ever.
Founded in 2007, more than 900 higher education institutions are using Genio’s technology to improve student outcomes. Genio focuses on learner outcomes, rooted in addressing students’ three key learning challenges: time constraints, underpreparation, and individual barriers to learning.
Genio’s learning tools provide a powerful way to increase student performance, confidence and learning enjoyment. Beautiful and intuitive to use, Genio’s solutions don’t do the work for the student, but rather compliment it and increase engagement, which is especially important at a time of rising concern about students’ use of AI.
Genio’s flagship note taking tool, now rebranded as Genio Notes, captures all information from an in-person or online class on any device, and then encourages students to organize and refine their notes for studying with powerful, intuitive editing, outlining, third-party sourcing, diagram generation, tagging and scheduling tools.
Genio Notes’ Quiz Me feature uses AI to safely autogenerate questions solely from class material, not the wider web, to test students’ knowledge and identify gaps.
A recent study, The Learner Impact Report 2025, shows that at-risk students with an initial GPA of less than 2.0 saw the greatest benefit from Genio’s tools, with a GPA increase of an average of 1.27 points. And students overall saw significant benefits, with their GPA growing on average by 0.15 points after taking notes and studying with Genio’s assistance. Additionally, the new majority learners benefited even more than traditional students.
“We envision a world where every person has the tools and confidence to expand what’s possible through learning.
For over 15 years, we’ve helped learners study more effectively from their lectures through our trusted audio note taking apps so they can take control of their learning and gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to thrive.
When students experience greater success, higher education institutions see greater retention and graduation rates. In evolving from Glean to Genio, we're the same people with the same purpose, just with a new name and a broader vision.” - Dave Tucker, Founder and co-CEO of Genio.
