AI Principles at Genio

AI is moving fast, faster than almost any technology shift we’ve seen before. It’s exciting, powerful, and full of potential. But like any tool, how we use it matters just as much as the fact that we use it.

At Genio, we’ve created a set of AI Principles to guide the Engineering team on how we explore, experiment, and put AI to work. They’re designed to make sure AI helps us work better, without adding complexity or risk.

Purposeful use

We use AI to improve how we work, helping us move faster, learn more, and avoid repetitive or manual tasks. We look for tools that clearly add value without adding complexity. If a solution doesn’t genuinely make things better, we don’t use it.

AI should enhance our work, not distract from it. Importantly, AI will always be optional. We trust our engineers to decide how best to use the tools available to them, based on what makes them most effective in their role.

Human-centred

We design and use AI to support, not replace human decision-making. We make sure humans stay in control and make sure they can override or question AI outcomes.

Sensible and safe

We're thoughtful about the data we share with AI tools, never entering personal, sensitive, or confidential information unless we know it's safe.

We prioritise trusted sources, follow strong data governance practices, and make sure we understand how tools handle our input. Where possible, we opt out of contributing to AI training, so our data isn't used to train large language models.

We test tools carefully before adopting them and stop using them immediately if anything feels off or could cause harm.

Fair and aware

Bias in AI isn’t always obvious so we monitor outputs, especially when they impact people, and act quickly if something seems unfair. We know fairness isn’t a one-off check; it’s something we need to maintain over time. We aim to build and use AI in ways that are respectful, inclusive, and fair.

Open and always learning

We’re open about how we use AI, what tools we use, why we use them, and how they work. We share and encourage learning, whether it’s wins or challenges. Curiosity is encouraged, and we support each other in building skills and exploring new ideas. This space is moving fast, and we want to grow with it together.

AI is an incredible opportunity but only if we use it thoughtfully. These principles aren’t about limiting experimentation; they’re about making sure we explore AI in ways that are safe, effective, and aligned with how we want to work.

By sticking to them, we can get the best of AI while keeping control, protecting our values, and continuing to do our best work.
