Genio Notes and Genio Present Accessibility Compliance Status
Genio Notes and Genio Present have achieved full WCAG 2.1 and 2.2 Level AA compliance, verified by third-party auditor Level Access as of April 2026. While the official Higher Education regulatory deadline has been extended to 2027/2028, Genio has met these standards ahead of schedule, ensuring immediate digital equity for learners.
- Compliance Scope: Genio Notes (Web) and Genio Present are fully compliant.
- Verification: Rigorous testing cycles conducted by Level Access to ensure equitable user experiences and VPAT availability.
- Strategic Impact: Provides Higher Education institutions with a risk-free, legally compliant solution well before the 2027/2028 mandate, removing the burden of accessibility management from university leaders.
Accessibility isn’t a deadline. It’s a standard.
Genio will ensure that our compliance continues through the new 2027/2028 deadline and beyond.
While many in the Higher Education (HE) tech space are breathing a sigh of relief following the recent extension of the official compliance deadline to 2027/2028, Genio became fully compliant for Genio Notes (web) and Genio Present before the new deadline was announced demonstrating our commitment to accessibility, and the needs of our learners.
Meeting the original WCAG 2.1 AA deadline
For many vendors, the one-year extension has been a reason to slow down. At Genio, we achieved full compliance for our web based products ahead of the original deadline because true accessibility is a core value, not a regulatory tickbox for us.
Breakdown of compliance timeline for Genio Notes and Genio Present:
- Genio Notes Web: Fully compliant as of April 16th.
- Genio Present: Fully compliant as of March 9th.
- Mobile Apps (iOS & Android): We have a brand new app on the way and we’re working with Level Access to achieve compliance in the near future.
Our team worked with third-party accessibility experts Level Access to resolve all issues across two intensive testing cycles. It wasn't just about fixing bugs; it was about refining the user experience to ensure that every student, regardless of how they interact with technology, has an equitable seat at the digital table.
Accessibility in 2026 and beyond
With the official deadline moved back by one or two years (depending on institution population size), Higher Education leaders face a choice.
Institutions should now, more than ever, hold vendors accountable. If a partner uses the extension as an excuse to delay accessibility features, they are effectively delaying equity for your students. By achieving compliance now, we are giving our partners the peace of mind they deserve today, not one or two years down the line.
Compliance in software is never a ‘one and done’ event. It is a continuous commitment to evolution.
Genio’s stance on accessibility
We know that compliance can feel like a moving target. Standards shift, and technology evolves. Accessibility is a requirement for our engineering teams so the work doesn't end with this announcement. This is how we ensure that accessibility is at the heart of our processes:
- Built-in vigilance: We are committed to maintaining compliance standards to 2027 and beyond. Features are tested for accessibility before they are released and accessibility tests are part of our release pipeline.
- Expert partnerships: We continue to work alongside accessibility leaders like Level Access to challenge findings and maintain the highest possible standards.
- Internal champions: Our dedicated Accessibility Champions are embedded in our engineering teams, ensuring that every new feature is built with inclusion at its heart from the planning stage.
Peace of mind for Higher Education leaders
As a Higher Education leader, you have a lot on your plate. Digital accessibility shouldn't be a source of anxiety or a legal risk you have to manage on behalf of your vendors.
By choosing Genio, you are choosing a partner that treats accessibility as a priority, not a pivot. We’ll handle the compliance in our products and the technical heavy lifting, so you can focus on what matters most: student support, access and success.
