For today's learners, studying is woven between the countless demands of everyday life. It can be during a commute, between shifts at work, while caring for family, or in the few quiet minutes before class begins.

This is the reality for today's New Majority Learners, a growing population of working adults, first-generation learners, student parents, caregivers, and students balancing other responsibilities alongside their studies. For many, learning happens on the move, and their phone is the device they rely on most.

Hence, learning experiences must change with them, making accessibility a matter of flexibility rather than a single point of access.

That's why we rebuilt Genio Notes for mobile, to make the full Genio Notes experience available wherever learning takes place, so students never have to choose between the flexibility they need and the support they deserve.

Introducing the new Genio Notes mobile app

The new Genio Notes mobile app is now available on the App Store and Google Play. Built to mirror the web experience, the new app brings the full Genio Notes experience to mobile for the first time.

What's new in the app

  • Works on phones and tablets: Designed to match the web experience across every screen size, making it frictionless to switch between devices.
  • Full web features available on mobile: Quiz Me, AI Outline, STEM support and Focus Timer are all available on mobile for the first time.
  • Always up to date: Because the app shares our web experience, new features and improvements will launch on web and mobile at the same time, so no student misses out based on the device they use.
  • Screen reader support: High degree of compatibility with screen readers such as VoiceOver on iOS, TalkBack on Android, and JAWS.

The new app shares the same design elements and interface as the web platform meaning learners who already use Genio Notes will find everything where they expect it to be. It is familiar, intuitive and easy to use from the very first study session.

Accessibility at Genio

The new Genio Notes mobile app has been built to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 and 2.2 Level AA, developed in close partnership with Level Access and our in-house accessibility engineering team.

At Genio, we are committed to making our web and mobile apps as accessible as possible, and we conduct comprehensive testing to achieve a high degree of compatibility with screen readers including TalkBack, VoiceOver, and JAWS. Any changes made to our web platform are automatically pulled across to our mobile platform, meaning new features and improvements are brought to mobile much faster than before.

Transparency is part of how we hold ourselves to account. An Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR/VPAT) for the new mobile app is currently in development with Level Access and will be published on completion.

What this means for students and institutions

For students, the new app means flexibility within their everyday life. The tools that help them record lectures, organize their thinking, study on the go, and engage with their coursework are now with them wherever they are.

For students who rely on assistive technology, that same access extends to mobile, with screen reader support built in and an experience designed with inclusion at its heart.

For institutions, the impact goes further than convenience. As mobile becomes the default device for a growing proportion of time-poor learners, accessibility obligations don't stop at the desktop. A tool that meets accessibility standards on the web but falls short on mobile creates a gap.

The new Genio Notes mobile app closes that gap, reflecting a broader shift towards learning experiences designed around the realities of modern student life.
