Boost comprehension with Mobile Captions
Find out how Mobile Captions can help learners stay more engaged with class content.
Captions provide an important comprehension aid to students who are hard of hearing or struggle with quickly processing spoken information.
While we have offered Live Captions via the web app for some time, up until now students have been restricted to using Genio Notes on their laptops if they wanted to use captioning. That’s why we’ve brought Live Captions to mobile, giving students the option to record classes on the device of their choosing.

Why captioning is important
Captions make it easy to understand spoken class content by providing a real-time transcript while recording. They are especially helpful for students who are hard of hearing, or struggle with processing in-the-moment spoken information.
Alongside this, we know that students are increasingly choosing to utilise their smartphones as part of their learning. For those using Genio Notes as an accommodation, recording class on a mobile device may be preferable due the greater degree of convenience and discretion offered.
This update means that learners who need captions to make the most of class now have the flexibility to choose the device they use in class, an option that may not have been possible before.
How to use captions on mobile
Captions can be enabled before or during a class recording by clicking the ‘CC’ button. To stop captions, simply click the same button again - it’s that simple!

It is worth noting that captions are only shown when recording, and not during playback. As soon as you stop recording, captions will cease as well.
If you need the speech text for your notes, you can generate a transcript after class.
