Genio's end of year round up for 2025

2025 has been a momentous year for Genio, marked by a major rebrand (from Glean to Genio!) and the rollout of significant features dedicated to unlocking better learning for all students.

We're especially proud of the strides we’ve made in support of our customers and the launch of our brand new product, Genio Present.

A huge thank you to our incredible community, our customers and learners, for celebrating everything Genio with us in 2025! Your stories and dedication to student success are what reaffirm our mission every day.

Here's a look back at the key milestones and exciting developments that shaped our year.

📊Our year in numbers

The impact of Genio's tools on student success has been a highlight of 2025, here’s a few statistics we’re particularly proud of this year!

  • 3.26 million events created by Genio Notes users this year.
  • 334 years of audio recorded by users.
  • 48% Increase in institution-wide users.
  • 12 new features added to Genio Notes this year, along with two new products overall.
  • Independent Study Results:
    • Using Genio Notes demonstrated a reduction in student dropout intentions from 7% to 5%.
    • 77% of STEM students feel more confident after using Genio.
    • 61% of learners agree that the Confident Notetakers Masterclass improved their note-taking confidence.

✨New Genio features released in 2025

Our team has been hard at work enhancing both the Genio Notes platform and the Genio Admin portal to provide deeper insights and a more seamless user experience.

Here’s a round up of all the updates and new features we released this year, to help make Genio Notes better for both students and admins!

Genio Admin updates

The administration side of Genio has been streamlined with powerful new tools for educators and administrators:

  • Admin insights dashboard: A new dashboard now provides key usage metrics, including license utilization and the total number of events recorded or viewed by students. These statistics help institutions easily gauge Genio adoption, see how students are interacting with content, and inform decisions about student support initiatives. Admins can also generate a PDF summary of these stats to share with colleagues.

  • Educator Admin role: Introduced back in August, this role grants faculty, professors, and other educators limited access to Genio Admin. Educator Admins can view basic information about students and manage shared collections for assigned groups. This means they can send recorded events (including audio and notes) to their students, giving them total control over media used by students. They can also understand student engagement with their classes.

  • Streamlined administrative tasks: Genio completed a project aimed at making common administrative tasks easier and more efficient, such as inviting students, expiring/resending invitations, and assigning users to groups.

Genio Notes platform enhancements

We also made significant expansion of it Genio Notes core capabilities, focusing on accessibility and enriched content management:

  • Captioning and transcription upgrades
    • Mobile captioning support: Captioning is now supported on mobile devices , catering to students who favor mobile for convenience and discretion.
    • Caption scrolling: Users can scroll back through the caption feed for typically about ten minutes, useful if they missed something the lecturer said.
    • Speaker diarization: Launched in September, this feature automatically separates and labels each speaker in the transcript, making it easy to identify who made a particular contribution. Users can edit speaker names, and the change is reflected throughout the entire transcript.

  • Content and annotation tools
    • Multiple file upload: Users can now upload more than one PDF or slide deck to an event. This allows them to integrate core slides with reading materials, supplementary slides, or reading lists, creating a powerful, single-place learning resource.
    • Slide annotations: Students can annotate and highlight uploaded documents (PDFs or slides) within the platform using a variety of tools like highlighters, freehand scribbles, additional text, or shapes. This encourages interaction and personalization, creating richer learning resources.
    • Formatted text notes: Learners can now format and highlight their text notes, with options to bold, italicize, and underline, create bulleted or numbered lists, and add formatted equations. These options help add structure and clarity, aiding information retrieval and reducing cognitive load.

🎓The Confident Notetakers Masterclass

Earlier this year we also released our first course, designed to help students take better notes! Our hour-long, free course is split into seven modules with multimedia content including audio, video, text, and multiple-choice questions. It is tool-agnostic, teaching different note-taking strategies, techniques, and best practices.

Designed by in-house learning experts, it's interactive, letting students practice their skills in practical scenarios to increase knowledge retention. Learners receive a badge for each module and a personalized certificate upon completion. The course is completely free for anyone with a Genio Notes account.

🧪STEM feature spotlight

One in three Genio learners are STEM students! This led us to release six new features specifically to support this group. Integrating support for equations and formulas throughout the study process was a core focus:

  • Equation input in notes: Learners can now access a new note type called "Add Formula" to insert formatted notes directly into the event's notes pane.

  • Equation support in Outline: Equation support was introduced in the Outline feature. This gives STEM students a really accurate record of the information in the class that they can rely on when starting a study session. Outline gives students a structured set of key highlights across a recording, helping them prioritize and improve learning efficiency.

  • Equation support in Quiz Me: When generating a quiz, it now includes accurately reflected and formatted formulas. This ensures STEM students fully benefit from the feature, which helps with retention and identifying knowledge gaps. Quiz Me also recently introduced new customization options, letting learners choose the number of questions and whether to include questions based on attached slides or PDFs.

🎤Genio Present

We’re closing the year with the announcement of a brand new product! Launching officially in 2026, Genio Present is our new presentation tool, designed to empower every student, including those with anxiety or learning differences, to participate confidently and equitably.  You can find out more about Genio Present here.
